DALLAS: Steve Ott’s controversial goal in the sixth round of the shootout helped the Dallas Stars beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 and end a three-game skid in the NHL on Saturday.

Dallas goalie Alex Auld and Detroit’s Jimmy Howard were perfect in the first five rounds before Ott backhanded a shot through Howard’s pads. Howard pulled the puck off the goal line, but after a lengthy video review officials ruled Ott’s shot crossed the line.

Detroit’s Patrick Eaves missed the net in his sixth-round attempt, and the Stars celebrated.

Blackhawks 6, Blue Jackets 5: At Columbus, Ohio, captain Jonathan Toews scored twice in the third period and added an assist for Chicago to sweep the home-and-away series against Columbus.

Andrew Ladd, Marian Hossa and Troy Brower each had a goal and an assist, Ben Eager also scored, and Patrick Kane added three assists for the Blackhawks, who remain co-tied for the league lead with San Jose.

Columbus captain Rick Nash scored twice, beside Kristian Huselius, Kris Russell and Raffi Torres.

Sharks 4, Oilers 2: At San Jose, California, Devin Setoguchi scored a pair in a 1:38 span to lead San Jose past Edmonton.

Patrick Marleau added his league-leading 32nd goal and Joe Thornton also scored for the Sharks, who were tied with Chicago for the most league points.

Denis Grebeshkov and Patrick O’Sullivan scored for the Oilers, who have lost seven straight and 14 of 15 overall.

Avalanche 3, Devils 1: At Denver, Craig Anderson made 37 saves, Chris Stewart and T.J. Galiardi scored and Colorado hung on against New Jersey.

Wojtek Wolski scored an empty-net goal with 12.3 seconds left to seal the win.Rob Niedermayer scored for the Devils.

Kings 4, Bruins 3, SO: At Los Angeles, Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar scored in the third period and got both Los Angeles goals in the shootout to beat Boston.

Jarret Stoll also scored for the Kings, while Blake Wheeler, Michael Ryder and Miroslav Satan scored for Boston.

Islanders 3, Bruins 2, SO: At Uniondale, New York, Trent Hunter’s goal in the eighth round of a shootout made New York goalie Rick DiPietro a winner in his first home game in over a year because of a knee injury.

Senators 4, Canadiens 2: At Montreal, captain Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and two assists in his return to Ottawa’s lineup after missing 11 games with a separated left shoulder, and Zack Smith scored his first NHL goal.

Mike Brodeur stopped 30 shots in his third career start, conceding goals only to Benoit Pouliot and Tomas Plekanec for Montreal.

Panthers 5, Lightning 2: At Sunrise, Florida, Cory Stillman and Rostislav Olesz each scored twice, and Tomas Vokoun made 47 saves for Florida.

Bryan Allen also scored to help Florida sweep the home-and-away series. Alex Tanguay and Andrej Meszaros scored for Tampa Bay.

Blues 4, Rangers 1: At St. Louis, Alex Steen and Roman Polak each had a goal and an assist, and Chris Mason made 21 saves to help St.

Louis win its season-best fourth straight game.

David Perron and David Backes also scored for the Blues, and Keith Tkachuk had two assists.

Brian Boyle scored for New York, snapping the Rangers’ scoring drought at 172 minutes in their third consecutive defeat.

Coyotes 6, Wild 4: At Glendale, Arizona, Petr Prucha scored twice, and Ed Jovanovski had a career-best four assists in his return from a two-game suspension for Phoenix.

Shane Doan scored and assisted, and Adrian Aucoin, Vernon Fiddler also scored for the Coyotes, who have won two straight after going winless in five games. Guillarme Latendresse had his first career hat trick, and Owen Nolan added a goal and an assist for Minnesota.

Thrashers 5, Hurricanes 3: At Raleigh, North Carolina, Ilya Kovalchuk scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period for Atlanta after it lost a two-goal lead.

Zach Bogosian, Jim Slater, Rich Peverley and Nik Antropov also scored for Atlanta. Jussi Jokinen scored twice, and Ray Whitney added a goal for Carolina.

Canucks 6, Penguins 2: At Vancouver, British Columbia, Henrik Sedin scored the equalizer, then added two assists in Vancouver’s four-goal burst in a 5-minute stretch.

The outburst started with Alex Burrows’ short-handed breakaway with 1:23 left in the first period. Mikael Samuelsson, Jannik Hansen and Willie Mitchell then scored in the first 4 minutes of the second period to chase starting goalie John Curry.

Ryan Kesler also scored, and Roberto Luongo made 22 saves.
