JEDDAH: In response to Tuesday’s devastating earthquake in Haiti, MoneyGram International has announced a program to help Haitians living abroad send immediate relief to their loved ones in Haiti for significantly reduced fees.

From Sunday, the global provider of money transfer services is offering the special pricing of $1 and a similar pricing in foreign currencies for money transfers to Haiti from any of its 186,000 locations throughout the world.

“This effort by MoneyGram and our agents will assist our customers in maximizing the funds sent to loved ones during this difficult time,” said Dan O’Malley, MoneyGram EVP of the Americas.

MoneyGram has nearly 130 agent locations in Haiti including Caribbean World Trading SA, Grace Trading, Moneylink SA and Unibank.

In addition to the temporary fee reductions, MoneyGram awarded a $10,000 grant to the Pan American Development Foundation, the natural disaster relief arm of the Organization of American States, for disaster relief in Haiti.
