JEDDAH: Al-Ittihad will take on Al-Hilal while Al-Ahli will meet Al-Ansar in the semifinals of the Prince Faisal Cup basketball tournament.
In the quarterfinals in Jeddah, Ahli knocked out a battling Fath 71-67. Ahli led by two after the first period 22 to 20. At half time they enjoyed a six-point lead 38 to 32.
In the third quarter they led by eight 55 to 47.
Fath kept fighting back and evened the score but missed some open shots and some free throws in the last two minutes and allowed Ahli pull ahead to victory.
In the other quarterfinal in Riyadh, Hilal was pitted against Wehdah. The young players from Wehdah put some points on the board but couldn’t match up against Hilal in the paint.
Hilal walked away with an easy 83 to 48 to make the last four stage.
In Madinah, Ansar made short work of Masera scoring a runaway 79-37 win to enter the semis.
The real battle was between Ittihad against Ohud, the two that are unbeaten in the STC league.
At half time Ittihad was leading 37 to 33. Good defense and a lot of turnovers took the game down to the wire.
Ittihad finally got the better of Ohud 67-64 and earned the right to meet Hilal. Ansar will meet Ahli in the semis in a two out of three playoff to reach the finals. The semifinals and finals will be played in Madinah
