AL AHSA: Saudi rally champion Yazid Al Rajhi was robbed and threatened by a gang of bandits between Al-Ahsa and Khurais in the eastern part of the Kingdom, when he was returning by road with one of his friends after competing in the first round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship held in Qatar.
Yazid’s car stopped between the city of Al Ahsa and Khurais district when the car ran out of fuel during the late night drive. While they were waiting for assistance, another car drove by and they asked for help.
The driver of the car asked one of them to come with him to bring fuel from the nearest gas station.
Al Rajhi accompanied the man while his friend stayed behind. During this period another vehicle with two men, who were armed, arrived at the spot of the stationed car and threatened to shoot Yazid’s friend as they waited for Yazid’s return.
Shortly, the car which took Al Rajhi to fetch gas, returned, but the driver too turned out to be a member of the gang.
The gang, which had machine guns with them, took from Yazid and his friend all their money and belongings, which included bags, computers, passports and other valuable items.
Yazid and his friend escaped without injury and thanked the Al-Ahsa for their immediate action.
