JEDDAH: Using helicopters as well as the evacuation and rescue teams of the Civil Defense in Tabuk four young men, dying of thirst and hunger in the desert, were rescued.
They had gone into the desert on a picnic, Civil Defense Lt. Col. Mamdouh Al-Anzi said Sunday.
He said the men had been trapped by the recent rains and floods after their vehicle ran out of gas. One of their relatives informed the Civil Defense that the four men had not returned from their outing and that contact with them had been lost.
“We immediately dispatched an air and ground rescue team. When we found them, they were in a bad state because of fatigue, thirst and hunger,” he said. “Apart from that, they were in good health,” Al-Anzi added.
The spokesman said the four men were taken to hospital for routine medial checks and were discharged the same day.
