Gunman goes berserk, 5 hurt
HAFR AL-BATEN: A man in his 20s broke into a house in Hafr Al-Baten and opened fire on five people inside with a machine gun, the daily Al-Yaum reported on Saturday. The bullets stuck only one of the men inside who is recuperating in a hospital. The shooter fled to a nearby rooftop and began shooting indiscriminately, but didn’t hit anyone. Relatives managed to calm the shooter down and convinced him to surrender himself. Police is still investigating the accident.
Woman paralyzed after hubby’s slap
TAIF: A 60-year-old husband slapped his 20-year-old wife while she was asleep causing her to be paralyzed in the face, a local daily reported on Saturday. The couple is from Ashayrah village, northeast of Taif. The couple was arguing before the wife went to sleep. The husband was still upset and decided to slap his wife while she was asleep, knocking her unconscious. Doctors told the husband that the wife was paralyzed in the face but she could recover with treatment.
Man accidentally shot in neck
TAIF: A 20-year-old man was accidentally shot in his neck south of Taif. The man was with a group of his friends in a private enclosure with a gun. One of the friends was playing with the gun not knowing that there was a bullet inside. The gun accidentally went off and the bullet hit the man’s neck. He was rushed to hospital where the man underwent operation to take the bullet out. The shooter was taken to the police station.
712 child beggars deported
JEDDAH: Al-Bir Welfare Society said on Sunday that it facilitated the deportation of 712 child beggars last year with the cooperation of immigration control authorities. Mazen Batarji, the chairman of the group, said that the center gave shelter to 788 boys and girls caught begging in Jeddah, including the children that were deported “through their embassies and in corporation with security authorities.”
