JEDDAH: The files of 88 individuals have been passed to the Commission for Investigation and Public Prosecution. The individuals allegedly tried to claim financial assistance by pretending they were victims of the Nov. 25 Jeddah floods.
Security agents found that the people had sought financial and material assistance offered by the government to flood victims.
The 88 had presented false evidence that their houses and properties were damaged by the flood.
The commission will investigate further before taking punitive action against them. Security agents found forgery and foul play in matters relating to deaths and damages caused by the flood.
Brig. Muhammad Al-Qarni, director of the media center at the Department of Civil Defense, said his department had passed all information regarding the flood to the police for verification.
"Many people who alleged they were flood victims failed to produce evidence. Three families claimed they were living in three separate houses. Later we learned that they were living in one house."
He said the department had presented all such cases to Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed and were awaiting his decision.
Al-Qarni said the department had called three families related to missing expatriates in order to have DNA tests to compare the results with those conducted on unidentified bodies.
"We have 12 unidentified bodies so far," he said, adding that the number of missing people following the flood had fallen to 32. "We are continuing to search for them in 11 locations," he said.
