JEDDAH: A record swashbuckling knock of 162 from only 57 deliveries by hard-hitting Mohammad Afroz enabled Tamer Cricket Club get the better of champions Zinda Tilismath of Hyderabad, India by 44 runs in the second week of the Division I cricket league matches, organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association. Afroz’s 100 came off only 36 balls.
In the other matches, Natco Saudi Arabia beat a strong Brothers-XI by 20 runs while Old Students-XI drew their match against Pak Ahmadabad-XI.
At JCA ground No.6, Tamer, who entered this league for the first time, won the toss and piled up 241 for 2 in 17 overs.
Skipper Anwar Khan was bowled by fast bowler Zaman for 22 while one down Imran met a similar fate by Zahid for 27 runs. Afroz anchored himself at one end and started his innings with four consecutive boundaries off the bowling of left of spinner Zahid.
Afroz was in full cry as he hit one dozen boundaries and cleared the rope the same number of occasions. He put on 145 runs for the first wicket partnership with Anwar Khan.
In reply the Zinda Tilismath team could managed to score 197 for 7 in 17 overs. Sayeed Khan’s 62 runs went in vain), while Jaweed Ahmed 29, Zahid 19, Sadathullah and Urooj hit identical 15 runs each. Muneeb took two wickets.
In the second match at JCA ground No.3, Natco Skipper Humayun Farooq won the toss and elected to bat and put up 207 for 9 on the board in the allotted 18 overs. Fahad (49), Humayun Farooq (41) and Ashiq (22) were their main run-getters. Arif Rana, and Aman took 3 wickets each.
In reply the Brothers-XI were bowled out for 187. Rayees (48), Abu Hassan (39) and Danish (33). Brothers-XI fell 20 runs short of their victory target. Imran took 2 for 7.
In the third match of the day at JCA ground No.4, Pak Ahmadabad-XI batting first scored 201 for 6. Syed Ashraf Shah and Arsalan hit 44 runs respectively.
Ayub (35), Jawaid (21) and Sadiq Memon (21) were the other scorers. Zaheer Peeran took 2 wickets.
In reply the Old Students-XI made 201 for 6. Muneeb struck 88 runs while Hamid remained unbeaten on 55 runs. Zahid took 3 and Razzaq claimed 2 wickets respectively.
