RIYADH: The team of Sheila McIllroy, Alison Rogers and Vivienne Sanderson won first place in the Dirab Ladies Group four-ball Texas Scramble Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Dirab Golf and Country Club.
Despite being short by one person the winning team pulled clear of the pack with a 1-under 70.
Second place on 76 went to Madele Burger, Rebecca Heffernan, and Christine Vbell, while the quartet of Evelyne Hayler, Pam Hanway, Fauzia Shamim and Inge Gueltling took third place on 79.
It was the first of four Texas Scramble events of 2010 played in benign conditions.
During the awards ceremony, DGCC Manager Bouchaib El Jadiani announced a change at the helm of the Dirab Ladies Group.
At the end of her term, Theresa Wade turned the Dirab Ladies Group captaincy to Flore Bouzanne. The letter of appreciation for Wade and the letter of appointment for Bouzanne as the new ladies captain for year 2010 was presented by Nasser Uddin Siddiqui, Dirab Golf Committee chairman, in behalf of Dirab Golf and Country Club.
Radisson Blu through the kindness of Mohammad Benamar and Dirab Golf and Country Club were the sponsors of the tournament.
Trophies and prizes were given to the winners and items raffled off during the prize distribtion ceremony.
Siddiqui and Andrea Corbett, Dirab PR manager, presented Wade some souvenir items from the club for her exemplary commitment during her term as the ladies captain.
For her part, Bouzanne said she is looking forward to an even better season with more player friendly events lined up during her term.
