JEDDAH: Siglakas Jeddah launched its 2nd Conference Family Olympics at the NASRPAC Compound.
This four-day event was attended by Siglakas members from different parts of north Jeddah, that represented the 12 teams entered in the tournament namely: Computerland, Al Bawadi 1, Al Bawadi 2, Al Salamah 1, Al Salamah 2, Al Salamah 3, Taif, JBC, Al Kaki, Siglakas Area Officers and the latest addition of yellow and blue teams representing NASRPAC.
The opening ceremony included a parade of aolors showcasing the team spirit of the Siglakas members , followed by the singing of the Philippine national anthem. The Olympic style “passing of the torch” was carried by Nelson Amonelo, who also led the oath of dportsmanship. The sport competitions were divided into the following categories: basketball, table tennis, dart and women’s volleyball.
This conference major sponsors include: Nasr Printing and Packaging Company (NASRPAC) who provided the venue, Saudi International Company (SAINTCO) who provided the trophies and Khalifa Abdulrahman Al-Gosaidi Cold Store who provided the juice drinks during the event.
For basketball: NASRPAC Blue Team, led by their team captain Rodelio Calipay, who also captured the “3-Point King” award, took home the Siglakas-NASRPAC Friendship Game 2009 title, settling Siglakas Area Officers team in 1st runner-up spot. Al Bawadi 2 and Computerland completed the list of the winning teams conquering the 2nd and 3rd runner-up positions respectively.
This conference mythical five awards were presented to: Center – Gabby Gabriel (Computerland), Power Forward – Ernesto Zapanta, Jr. (Computerland), Small Forward – Jeffrey Damasino (Area Officers), Point Guard – Rodel Garcia (Al Bawadi 2) and Off Guard – Ariel Alaba (Al Bawadi 2). Jeffrey Damasino won the 2009 Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, while Al Bawadi 2 head coach Danilo Dizon emerged as the Best Coach of the conference.
For table tennis: Willie Estrelles (NASRPAC) won the championship title, followed by Al Villafranca (NASRPAC) and Jess dela Peña (Al Salamah 1) in 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
For dart: Emmanuel Eclarino (Al Salamah 1) emerged as the champion, followed by Edsel Roy Celebrado (Al Bawadi 2) in 2nd position and Romeo Magcawas (Area Officers) in 3rd position.
For women’s volleyball: Taif remained undefeated in a double round elimination to won this year’s title. JBC team settled for 2nd runner-up position and Al Salamah 2 team in 3rd runner-up position. Elvie Sanchez from Taif team won the 2009 Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
In the working committees are Abdulrahman Alfad and Ryan Lopez of NASRPAC, Dodgie Gregorio and Alex Tria of Siglakas supported by Edna Viray, Rollie Furio, Nelson Amonelo, Darrel Bano, Marvin Guinto, Rey Macaspac, Benedick Quibin, Jowet Carreon, Jason Diezmo, Jhun Pasimio, Marlon Zulueta, Erick Diego, Jhay Bautista, Ferdie Cayton, Chris Clemente, Lino Abad, Ed Galvan, Art Ladino, Noel dela Cruz, Albert Visperas, Mark Velasquez and Marcos Bianan.
