TAIF: A dental clinic based at the Al-Sharqiah health center in Taif has been shut down because of a polluted water supply.
Laboratory tests revealed that water coming into the center was tainted with sewage.
Patients and medical staff have been complaining to health authorities about the old building for many years, and have requested relocating the entire health center to a safe facility.
According to residents in the neighborhood, not only the dental clinic but the building where the health center is based is about to collapse.
The Civil Defense, which had actually certified the premises as unsafe many years ago, had recommended that the center should be relocated.
“The health center in its current state does not serve the local people as they are scared of entering the building. I believe that it is within the authority of the health directorate to find a more suitable building or build a new one,” local Al-Sharqiah town resident Khaled Al-Misfar told Arab News on Tuesday.
“It is better to close the center than forcing infirm people to go to this unhygienic place. I wonder how the hospital workers spend most of their day in it.”
Spokesman for Taif’s Health Department Siraj Al-Humaidan said the center would be relocated as soon as a new building was found.
“The Health Department has been looking for a suitable building for the center,” he said.
He added that new water tanks have been supplied to the health center to replace the present ones.
