RIYADH: Riyadh police have acted after reports that students at a school east of Riyadh threatened teachers during the first week of exams, Al-Watan reported.
The teachers, who were acting as invigilators, had stopped the pupils from completing their papers after they were caught cheating.
The students got angry and left the examination hall promising to beat up the teachers.
The invigilators did not take the threats seriously but found their cars had been vandalized when they left for home.
General supervisor of media at the education ministry Fahd Al-Tayyash expressed shock at the incidents. He called on the attacks to stop and said the ministry would stand against those who wish to ruin its reputation. He added that the dignity of teachers and students was protected against those who want to harm it.
Al-Tayyash called on security authorities to intervene and bring those responsible to justice.
Head of the education ministry in Riyadh, Abdul Aziz bin Muhammad, said that there is usually coordination between security forces and schools, adding that officers often patrol school grounds to prevent violent incidents occurring.
