MADINAH: A group of citizens living in the Zahrat Al-Oyun District north of Madinah complained that their district has become a dumping ground for waste and that it would harm the district’s environment. Fayez Al-Maliki, one resident of the district, said the garbage dumped in the area included agricultural and construction waste.
“The area has become breeding ground for disease carrying mosquitoes,” he said. He said the municipality has not yet taken any action to prevent the dumping of waste in the area: “We are afraid that it will affect our children’s health.” Khaled Al-Ahmedi said the district has now become a place for infectious diseases.
“We also suffer from bad smell of chemicals that comes out of the health department laboratory. Residents in the district are fed up with this smell,” he said.
Hussein Al-Saedi criticized the municipality for ignoring the district, which is close to the university road. “We had approached the municipality several times to change the situation of our district but there is no progress.”
Ahmed Al-Harbi, who is living with his family in a new house in the district, said he was thinking of shifting to another place.
