CHICAGO: The Phoenix Coyotes brought up their longest NHL winning streak for three years, beating the high-flying Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 after a penalty shootout Friday.
Robert Lang and defenseman Adrian Aucoin scored in the shootout to give Phoenix its season-high sixth straight victory — their best run since 2006-07 — and outright third place in the Western Conference standings.
Capitals 5, Thrashers 2: In Washington, the hosts kept up their hot streak, notching their 13th consecutive win by downing Atlanta. The last time a team had a longer streak was when Pittsburgh set the league record with 17 in a row in 1992-93.
Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 39th goal and had an assist, while Nicklas Backstrom, Alexander Semin, Jason Chimera and Mike Green also netted for the Capitals.
Flames 2, Panthers 1: In Sunrise, Florida, Ales Kotalik and Mark Giordano scored to lift out-of-form Calgary to a win over Florida. Mikka Kiprusoff made 12 saves for the Flames, who ended a four-game road-losing streak.
Dennis Seidenberg scored the sole goal for the Panthers, who had a season-low 13 shots on goal.
Devils 4, Maple Leafs 3: In Newark, New Jersey, the hosts scored three times in the last three minutes to record a stunning win over Toronto.
Dean McAmmond, Travis Zajac and Jay Pandolfo scored in the wild finish to turn a disappointing debut for Ilya Kovalchuk into a celebration.
Dainius Zubrus had a first-period goal for New Jersey.
Tomas Kaberle, Lee Stempniak and Rickard Wallin scored in the second period for Toronto.
Hurricanes 4, Sabres 3: In Buffalo, New York, Jussi Jokinen snapped a third-period tie and added an assist to lift Carolina over Buffalo.
Backup goalie Manny Legace made 28 saves for Carolina, while Eric Staal, Aaron Ward and Tom Kostopoulos also scored for the Hurricanes.
For the Sabres, Drew Stafford scored twice and Andrej Sekera had a goal and two assists.
