JEDDAH: Blue House won the overall winners trophy in the boys and girls section respectively of the Pakistan International School Jeddah (English Medium) annual athletic sports meet, which was held recently. Red, Yellow and Green Houses followed in that order.

It was indeed a pleasant surprise to watch the girls scouts participate in the march past. The torch passed through the hands of the respective leaders of each house into the hands of the Chief Guest Mrs. Noshaba Akmal and Federal Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education Mrs. Samina Khalid Ghurki who finally threw open the sports meet with the lighting of the torch.

In the boys section, the captain of each house held the torch and then passed it on to the Chief Guest Akmal Saeed to officially declare open the boys sports meet.

A number of different event were organized like the 100 meters, relay, sack race, three-legged, spoon, lemon, etc. Students from the boys as well as the girls sections took part. It was indeed a feast to watch students participate with great zest and fervor each trying to compete with the other.

The crowd went ga-ga watching the father trying desperately against the male teachers of the school in events like the tug-of-war and track races. These were however won by the staff of the PISJ.

However, the highlight of the day was in boys section (3-5 years of age) where Mohammad Zulqarnain won two medals beating the others twice his height.

The action took off with the spoon and lemon races with Rafey Shezad (Y3-1) of Blue House, Hammad Khalid (Y3-2) of Red House, Owais Ahmed (Y3-2) of Green House, Ali Haider (Y4-5) of Blue House, Ali Ahmed (Y5-2) of Blue House and Sayed Q. (Y6-3) of Blue House won their respective races.

Akmal Saeed distributed the prizes and handed over the championship trophy for the year 2009-2010 to the Blue House.

The program earlier started with the recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Ahmed Yaseen. The flag hoisting ceremony was then followed by the national anthems of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

School Principal Sehar Kamran, welcomed the guests and urged the students to do their best, reminding them of the school’s moto – strong motivation, dedication and sincerity toward a cause.

“Winners don’t wait for chances, they take them,” she said.
