Launched in 2006, AMCLI has been assisting Muslim nonprofit organizations and their leaders to participate in civic engagement to improve the Muslim community’s full participation in American public life.

The AMCLI is a six-month faith-based leadership development program that aims to build the capacity of the next generation of Muslim civic leaders in America to improve the community’s civic and political engagements, enhance intra-community relations, and foster alliance with non-Muslim organizations with shared objectives.

This unique program includes lectures by scholars, experts and practitioners from across the US in the areas of civic participation, skill-building and team-building topics, and civic engagement from an Islamic perspective. The institute is housed at the University of Southern California’s Center for Religion and Civic Culture, and works in partnership with the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding in Georgetown University.

In 2005, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal announced through the Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation a $20 million endowment gift to Georgetown University to support and expand its Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding.

The center is an international leader in inter-religious scholarship and research.

Prince Alwaleed’s endowment was the second largest single gift in Georgetown University’s history.
