MADINAH: One child died and four other persons were injured when a fire started in an apartment in Madinah on Wednesday. Provincial Civil Defense spokesman Col. Mansour Al-Johani said three firefighting teams arrived at the location, broke into the apartment and rescued five people from the burning apartment. The fire started in the living room. A child succumbed to smoke inhalation. Civil Defense is still investigating the cause of fire.
DAMMAM: Traffic police in Dammam arrested ten joyriders and confiscated 15 vehicles in four days. One joyrider was sent to court because he was a repeat offender; he faces lashes and the seizure of his car. Last month, Dammam police arrested 46 joyriders and seized more than 57 cars. The Kingdom passed a law last year that increases punishments for persons who stunt drive in order to crack down on the pastime that is popular among young Saudi men.
MAHD AL-DAHAB: A woman sent seven of her children and grandchildren to the hospital after they ate cookies she had baked using expired ingredients, a local daily reported. All of the victims of the food poisoning were treated and released the same day.
AL-AHSA: An Asian worker was killed here late Tuesday when his co-worker stabbed him. Police arrested the accused attacker. A preliminary investigation revealed that the two had an argument before the attacker stabbed the victim. Police are still investigating the murder.
MAKKAH: Police here are investigating a 43-year-old woman charged with beating up her 61-year-old husband, sending him to hospital, a local daily reported on Thursday. Police say the man claimed he was attacked in his sleep and that his wife has a history of being abusive. The wife was arrested and transferred for investigation and possible prosecution.
MAKKAH: Police here arrested 12 women accused of overstaying on their pilgrimage visas to work illegally as housemaids. Without elaborating, police said the women are also accused of engaging in “indecent acts.” The women will be deported after the conclusion of the investigation.
JEDDAH: Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed will inaugurate a three-day conference on blood pressure at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday. The conference will discuss the latest developments in the treatment of the disease.
