The board of directors will soon organize an open meeting with the members of these committees to decide the strategy of work and formulate future plans.

Most committees are composed of 18 members of whom 12 are elected through direct voting and six are appointed by the board of directors of the chamber.

“These committees represent the service arm of the chamber and their work complements that of the board of directors aimed at serving the business and industrial sectors in Jeddah,” said Saleh Kamel.

He asked the committee to interact with members of the industries they represent to discuss difficulties facing them.

“There will be complete coordination between the leadership of the chamber and the committees and their recommendations will not be locked in drawers but rather will be seriously considered,” he added.

Deputy chairman Mazen Batarji expressed satisfaction over the formation of the committees and said young blood was infused in the committees.

“The committees are made up of a galaxy of traders, industrialists and businessmen in various sectors in addition to government officials,” he added.

Batarji said the business sector and the committees represent the backbone of the work of the chamber because they are directly linked to people and their problems and concerns.

He recalled the various achievements made by the committees during the past years and said the committees have contributed to a number of major problems facing the city, including the stockpiling of goods in the seaport, the flour and rice shortage, the importing of sheep from Somalia and other problems.

Batarji said it took the chamber more than three months to complete preparations for the formation of the new committees.
