The project is being pushed by the JCCI's recently launched Public Transport Committee.

"In its first meeting, the Public Transport Committee of the JCCI reviewed the progress in discussions with transport companies about the ways to implement the tracking system as a measure to counter increasing vehicle theft, especially in remote areas," said the committee's deputy chairman Saeed Al-Bassami.

The system will initially be rolled out in Jeddah and later spread to other areas in the Kingdom with the approval of the National Public Transport Committee under the Council of Saudi Chambers and Commerce and with the collaboration of the Ministry of Transportation.

Al-Bassami said the subscription rates of the system would be an initial fee of SR800 and a monthly subscription of SR40.

The official hoped that the system will be welcomed by all companies and individuals. He also pointed out that the system will not be a substitute for the insurance system but rather an extra safety measure.
