The suspects, whose nationalities have not been announced, are responsible for stealing 20 cars and several mobile phones at gunpoint across the capital.

Police launched an investigation after three Saudis reported that their cars had been jacked and their mobile phones stolen at gunpoint. The reports were filed at the Sweidi and Shobrah police stations in Riyadh’s Al-Sultana district.

According to the victims, the thieves used a 2008 Caprice to ram their cars from the back. When the drivers would come out, one of the thieves would get in from the passenger door and drive off while another would rob the victims’ phones and other valuables using a handgun.

Riyadh police first located the vehicle used in the robberies and then monitored the movements of the two youths. The youths were subsequently arrested and identified in an identity parade.

Following their positive identification, the youths admitted to stealing 20 cars and a number of expensive mobile phones from both motorists and pedestrians. They also told investigators how they would drive fast and then break suddenly to frighten pedestrians and then use a gun to intimidate them into handing over valuables.

Police are currently working to locate the stolen cars and identify whether others have also been involved in the thefts. Once investigations are complete, the two men will be brought before a court for trial.
