- JEDDAH: The Bureau of Control and Investigation in Makkah province is investigating six officials from Rabigh Municipality who have allegedly sanctioned deeds for land belonging to the government.
Sources say that three senior engineers at the municipality as well as two surveyors and a Sudanese accountant are involved in the scam.
The officials are accused of approving a deed for a 2,400 square meter plot of government land and helping Saudi individuals to obtain licenses to construct walls around the plot located along the Old Madinah Road, north of Rabigh. The bureau asked the municipality officials to visit its office on Saturday to complete investigations.
According to the source, the Sudanese has been working with the municipality as an accountant for several years, but does not have the necessary qualifications.
Rabigh, located northwest of Jeddah, is a fast developing city. Real estate prices in the city have gone up after the establishment of King Abdullah Economic City and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Thuwal. The price of a square meter of land in the area exceeds SR500.
