Al-Masri, who is also a Palestinian billionaire and heads the Palestinian National Coalition of independent figures, arrived in Gaza City on Tuesday afternoon with a new plan for reaching a national reconciliation that has already been well-received by representatives of Fatah and Hamas.

"We are already receiving congratulations from all sides, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas," Al-Masri told the local news agency "Maan", without giving further details.

On Monday, Mahmoud Al-Zahar, a senior Hamas official based in Gaza said that his movement and the Gaza government extended a hand for reconciliation, and Hamas is studying some suggestions that may help to get out of the current stage, but if Fatah and other factions accept them.

Speaking to a conference from Gaza via a video line at the Palestinian Media, Research and Studies Center (Badeil) in the West Bank, Al-Zahar said, "We are studying some suggestions to get past the current phase. If Fatah does not accept these suggestion, it is not the end of the story, and Hamas is still extending its hand to reconciliation to end the split."

Al-Zahar had not revealed the context of the suggestions and had not identified the party that presented them to his movement.

However, a senior Fatah official on Tuesday said that his movement is cautiously optimistic regarding Hamas' stance to end the Palestinian split.

"We have received some proposals through a number of Palestinian persons regarding Hamas' stance toward the Palestinian reconciliation," Azzam Al-Ahmad, a member of the Fatah Central committee told Voice of Palestinian Radio on Tuesday.

"We still study these suggestions," Al-Ahmad added. "We urge Hamas to accept the Egyptian plan for reconciliation to heal the rift because it is the only path to reunite."
