- JEDDAH: Health authorities in Jeddah have closed the maternity section of a private hospital in the northern part of the city for not appointing a consultant at the department.
"The rules and regulations for health institutions insist that hospitals should have adequate numbers of doctors, consultants and specialists to ensure they operate smoothly," said Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Jawad, manager of medical license at the Jeddah Health Department.
"We closed the hospital's maternity department for violating the law," he said, adding that his department would continue making inspection tours to ensure all health institutions follow the rules in order to protect public health and ensure quality service.
Abdul Jawad warned that his department would punish health institutions that violate the country's regulations and standards. The punishment will include closure and fine, he added.
