"My lawyer has submitted in the court that it was not humanly possible for me to travel all the way to Karnataka and plot the blasts without the knowledge of the Kerala police. All my movements are monitored by the police and I'm totally innocent in this case," Madani told reporters on Tuesday.

Lending credence to his claim, one of the witnesses whose account the police reported to the court as major evidence to nail Madani in the 2008 serial blasts in Bangalore also denied having given any such statement.

The Fast Track Sessions Court in Bangalore hearing the case postponed his anticipatory bail plea to July 7 after his counsel P. Usman raised the point and pleaded to summon his travel log from the Kerala police. The prosecution also wanted time to respond to the demand.

A sub-inspector and three constables were following Madani, wherever he went as he was under the B-Category security protection provided by the Kerala government after his release from Tamil Nadu jail where he spent nearly a decade as an under-trial in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blasts.

Madani is the 31st defendant in the case and an arrest warrant issued by a magistrate court in Bangalore is pending against him. Police accuse him of attending the terror camp organized by the prime accused T. Naseer in Coorg in Karnataka. His counsel has also sought a copy of Madani's travel log from Kerala police using the Right to Information Act.

Naseer, whom the police identify as the south Indian commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba involved in a series of terror and sedition cases, has also since denied that he had given a statement to his interrogators confirming Madani's involvement.

Jose, another key witness and brother of the owner of the house in which the Madani lived for eight months after his release in late 2007, also said he was misquoted by the Karnataka police and he never gave a statement against him.

"They summoned me to the house where Madani was staying and asked me if I had ever seen Madani with Naseer, whom the police had brought there. I replied in the negative," he said.

According to the police John's statement was that he saw Naseer and Ma'dani in his sister's house leased out to Madani and he heard them talking something about the Bangalore blasts and the blasts occurred a few days later.

"They made me sign a statement in Kannada which I could not understand. When asked, they explained that it was about the meeting and that they recorded my actual statement," he said.

Madani alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is in power in Karnataka was targeting him as part of its strategy to brand the opponents terrorists and traitors and make political capital out of it.

"They misused a friendly government in Tamil Nadu to keep me in jail for almost a decade till I was acquitted by the court and I know they are at it again. But I have great faith in our judiciary," Madani said. "Many had then, including ministers in Kerala, advised me to move the court for compensation and to punish the officers who wrongly implicated me. But I had by then learnt to pardon my tormentors."

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Cochin relaxed the bail conditions of his wife Sufia Madani, an accused in the 2005 bus burning, case to visit her husband. She was allowed to move out of the district and return within three days.

She pleaded that her husband could be arrested anytime and she would like to spend time with him and hence asked for a month's relaxation. But the court gave her three days' time starting Wednesday to be with her husband and children in Kollam district some 150 km away.

On Dec. 23, 2009 she got bail on the condition that she would surrender her passport and not go out of Ernakulam district. Naseer, a former associate of Madani, is also the key accused in the case. They allegedly hijacked the Tamil Nadu bus at gunpoint and burnt it after reports that the PDP leader was mistreated during solitary confinement.
