Brig. Gen. Muhammad Al-Qahtani said he was determined to ensure the safety of Jeddah’s roads during the summer season.

“Our aim is to raise the sense of responsibility among people, tourists and Umrah pilgrims. That is why police will be present everywhere to provide help for people,” said Al-Qahtani.

“There will be a large police presence at major roads across the city such as Jeddah’s beaches, around malls, the city center, and many other tourist locations.”

According to Al-Qahtani, traffic police have selected these locations carefully to ensure the safety of all people.

“We have selected places where a high number of people will be gathered due to the summer festivals,” he added.

Al-Qahtani said the campaign is primarily concerned with tourist events that will take place during the Jeddah summer festival.

“We will arrange with the festival organizers to send additional police squads for every location.”

He also called on people to drive carefully and not park their cars in the middle of the roads, especially with the limited availability of parking in malls, airport, and other entertainment locations.

The state-of-the-art Saher system will be implemented in all heavy traffic areas where cameras will monitor all roads and vehicles.

Al-Qahtani also announced a new joint venture between Jeddah Traffic Management and the Ministry of Education, where students will be allowed to shadow traffic management staff over the summer.

“Students can join us to work in crowded areas. They can manage traffic flow after they receive a course on traffic rules and the system in their summer clubs” said Al-Qahtani.

Al-Qahtani emphasized the importance of being patient while driving, especially in areas where work was taking place.

“The main roads are extremely crowded because of pending infrastructure projects. Drivers should be patient and conform to driving rules,” said Al-Qahtani.

He also urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are safe to avoid accidents.
