- LOS ANGELES: US consumer product safety regulators are announcing another recall of children's jewelry that contains high levels of the toxic heavy metal cadmium.
This time it's nearly 70,000 charm bracelets and rings that were distributed for free at some doctor and dentist offices over the past five years.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday that parents should immediately throw away the "Children's Happy Charm Bracelets" and football-shaped rings.
The recall is the latest involving cadmium, a naturally occurring metal that is a known carcinogen and that over time can weaken bones and kidneys.
The charm bracelets have colorful beads and a single metal charm shaped like a butterfly, moon or sun.
