Lucas Luca said on Friday that it would be unlikely that 54-year-old Christopher Metsos would be apprehended in Cyprus because he believes that he is no longer on the east Mediterranean island.

Metsos is wanted in the United States on charges that he supplied money to the spy ring that operated under deep cover in America’s suburbs.

Earlier, the US Embassy in Cyprus denied media reports it was holding the fugitive spy suspect at its compound.

Metsos vanished Wednesday after skipping bail in Cyprus, prompting a widespread manhunt by embarrassed Cypriot authorities. He disappeared on Wednesday after a Cyprus court freed him on bail.

In Washington, three of the 10 accused Russian spies held by the United States appeared before court as revelations from glamorous suspect Anna Chapman’s ex-husband explained how she was dominated by her KGB father.

The bail hearing in Arlington, northern Virginia for the three suspects Michael Zottoli, Patricia Mills, and Mikhail Semenko took place late Friday after being delayed at the request of defense lawyers who said they had new information.

Zottoli and Mills, a married couple, moved from the northwest city of Seattle to Arlington in late 2009 and, according to the US complaint, had over the years made contact with another of the accused spies in New York, picking up thousands of dollars in cash and a computer memory stick.
