- JEDDAH: A health survey from Jeddah’s Health Affairs Department has revealed that less than a quarter of residents in a northern city district are covered by health insurance.
The study, released by Jeddah Health Affairs on Friday says 23 percent of those living in the Al-Safa district are insured. The survey revealed up to three percent of residents in the area are disabled and that only 28 percent of the women breast-feed their children while the rest use a bottle.
According to the Jeddah municipality’s official website, there are officially 56,000 people living in Al-Safa district, although the Society of Residential Districts’ Secretary Hassan Al-Zahrani estimates this figure is closer to 600,000.
Dr. Nuha Dashash, assistant to the director of Health Affairs, said the survey took 15 weeks to conduct and added that more than 10,000 questionnaire forms and materials on health awareness were distributed.
She said more than 3,000 cases were studied and 89 personnel were trained before the survey was launched.
