The campaign urges volunteers to freeze a bottle of water overnight and to give the bottle to a street cleaner when they are out in the city the following day.

“I heard about this campaign after receiving an SMS from one of my friends, said local resident Ahmed Basrawi.

“I thought it was a brilliant idea and I have started doing this on a daily basis. It’s just a small gesture from all of us to give a helping hand to those who work under the summer sun.”

Medical student Areej Ali said she joined the campaign due to her concern over the health of the workers. “There job description states that they should pick up the trash no matter how the weather is,” she said. “Working under the sun might get them dehydrated and giving them cold water can keep their systems stable.”
