Mohammed Saif Shaikh, a 10th grade student, was hit by a speeding GMC four-wheel drive. He died on his way to hospital. “School teachers and students broke down in tears on hearing news of his death,” said IISR Principal Manzar Jamal Siddiqui.

The accident took place opposite the Granada Sports Center near the Noor Family Supermarket, said family friend Nazeer Pallivalapil.

He added that the driver of the vehicle sped off after the collision and has still not been identified. Police are investing the case and trying to trace the man.

Shaikh was described as an exemplary student, scoring high marks. He was about to leave the Kingdom to spend his summer vacation in the US. His father, Mohammed Ibrahim Shaikh, works for Aramex.

The family is originally from Mumbai, India’s business and industrial hub.

Two Indian students also recently died in Dammam when their Hyundai Accent spun out of control and struck a concrete structure near the international Indian school there.

Siddiqui called on parents and students to be careful when crossing roads. “A lesson on traffic rules and regulations was imparted at the school assembly on Monday itself,” he added.
