Punjab Assembly passed a unanimous resolution against the media over reporting against lawmakers with fake degrees.

The resolution stressed the media representatives to observe impartiality in coverage, avoid insulting attitude against legislators, discourage baseless reports and demonstrate responsibility.

Protesting against the move, journalists set ablaze copies of the resolution in front of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and assembly members and vowed to continue their protest till the resolution is withdrawn.

The resolution introduced in the assembly by Sanaullah Mastikhel, a member of Muslim League (Nawaz), accused media of playing a negative role in the democratic process and of adopting a condescending stance toward women assembly members.

So far the Higher Education Commission has identified three members from the ruling Pakistan People’s Party who had submitted fake degrees before the Election Commission. An equal number of lawmakers from Pakistan Muslim League (N) were found holding fake degrees. One member from PML (Q) too had submitted fake degree.
