- JEDDAH: The secretary of the society of residential districts in Jeddah, Hassan Al-Zahrani, has asked the Jeddah municipality to update the statistical reports about the number of people in various residential quarters of the city it publishes on its website.
“It is not possible that six districts, including Al-Safa, Al-Bawadi, Al-Faisaliyah and others that are being served by the Al-Mattar municipality together have a population of 56,000 as the municipality says on its website,” he told Arab News on Friday.
Al-Zahrani was astonished that the statistics of the municipality also showed seven residential quarters in East Jeddah, which are being served by Briman municipality, having 56,000 residents!
“These areas have much more inhabitants than the Jeddah municipality believes,” he said. He recalled that the Jeddah municipality’s website gave the number of inhabitants of 13 residential quarters belonging to Um Al-Salam branch municipality, including Kilo 14, Kilo 18, Al-Sulaimaniyah and others, as having only 410,000 persons.
“This figure cannot be correct,” he said. Al-Zahrani also ridiculed the figure of 89,000 given by the Jeddah municipality as the number of residents of 20 districts along the old Makkah Road including Prince Fawwaz district.
“This is ridiculous especially since the municipality had earlier said the residents of the Khuzam Palace area that is to be developed numbered more than 110,000,” he said.
