“We are seriously working on this,” Pablo Bravo said, adding that he has received thousands of congratulatory calls and messages from across the world on his country’s winning the FIFA World Cup.

In a telephone call on Sunday night, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah congratulated Spanish King Juan Carlos on Spain’s victory in the World Cup, Bravo said.

The Spanish ambassador was celebrating the victory with around 150 Saudi and Spanish guests at his Riyadh residence. Senior Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and Shoura Council members were present at the celebrations, which continued until 3 a.m. Monday morning.

The envoy thanked King Abdullah for his good wishes and expressed his gratitude to Saudis who supported the Spanish team.

The diplomat spoke of the hard work done by the team, especially Andres Iniesta who scored the winning goal against the Netherlands.

“With that one last goal, either joy or anguish could be heard around the world as the Netherlands finally succumbed to being the second best in the FIFA World Cup 2010,” said the envoy.

He also thanked Dutch Ambassador Ronald Strikker for his message of congratulations. Ambassador Strikker also had a large number of well-wishers and friends present at his residence on Sunday night.

Bravo said the victory of Spain was due to the emergence of a golden generation of players, drawn heavily from Barcelona’s ranks. The seeds sown by the Spanish Football Federation over the last 15 years were now bearing fruit, he added.
