The ministry’s inquiry revealed that Lebanese television channel LBC had heavily edited the Red Line program, which featured Jawad bragging about his sexual adventures.

However, Suleiman Al-Jumaie has made a complaint to the ministry, refuting the findings of the investigation. “Though it is good that the panel has ascertained that the original tape was tampered with, it did not apply the print and publications laws to LBC,” he said.

“It has not held LBC responsible and has not summoned other parties involved in the program and whose papers were forwarded to the ministry by the Jeddah summary court.” Abdul Jawad is currently serving a five-year jail term and is to also receive 1,000 lashes.

The car that he used to pick up girls and his mobile phone were also confiscated, while he has been banned from traveling outside for five years after he has served his sentence.

Al-Jumaie praised the statement recently issued by a ministry spokesman that special committees would be appointed to look at all media and cultural cases, but added that this ruling should have been issued during his client’s trial before the summary court.

“I have always said it was the Ministry of Culture and Information which was the party concerned with my client’s case, but nobody would listen,” he said.

Al-Jumaie wanted to know why Abdul Jawad was tried before a summary court if the ministry was responsible for print and publication cases.
