The Acer Aspire “Predator” AG7750 is a smoking hot gaming rig. The machine’s power comes from Intel Core i7 quad-core processors, NVIDIA GeForce GTX470 graphics with 3-way SLI support and 12GB DDR3 memory. Combined DirectX 11, CUDA and NVIDIA PhysX Technologies deliver cinematic quality visuals.

Gamers can add an Acer 3D monitor for a fully immersive experience with NVIDIA 3D Vision, a combination of high-tech wireless glasses and advanced software — to transform hundreds of PC games into full stereoscopic 3D.

Standard configurations of the Predator provide a 1.5TB hot-swap SATA hard drive, and for upgrades there are three additional hot-swap hard drive bays, support for two more GTX470 graphics cards (for Triple SLI), another optical drive and PCI/PCIe card expansion. Connectivity options include 11 USB 2.0 ports, IEEE 1394, two eSATA ports, two Ethernet ports, two DVI-D ports, a TV-out port and six audio jacks. The starting retail price is $1,999.

The non-profit Environmental Working Group (EWG) uses the power of public information to protect public health and the environment. The organization recently released its 2010 Sunscreen Guide (www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen) which helps consumers decipher the ingredients in sunscreen lotions. EWG research found that many sunscreens are potentially harmful to human health and the environment. The organization has also long offered Skin Deep (www.cosmeticsdatabase.com), a cosmetics safety database. Many cosmetics and perfumes contain chemicals or other ingredients that can disrupt hormones, cause allergic reactions, have hazardous properties or accumulate in human tissues.

The Galaxy S aims to deliver a “Smart Life.” This smartphone with its Super AMOLED display runs Android with a 1GHz processor and offers 720p HD video recording. The Galaxy S features six-axis motion sensing — thanks to an accelerometer and geo-magnetic sensor — and a user interface that supports a series of advanced touch screen gesture capabilities.

The Swype feature in the Galaxy S allows users to input text on the smartphone’s screen at 1.5 times the speed of thumb-based entry, with one continuous finger motion across the keyboard. A key feature of the Galaxy S is the Social Hub which focuses on social networking and keeping friends and contacts just a touch away. All messages across e-mail, text and social networking sites are received instantly, with no need to navigate through multiple applications.

The smartphone’s Layar Reality Browser works with the 5-megapixel camera in the Galaxy S to overlay contextual information about points of interest from databases such as Google Maps and Tele Atlas. Connectivity includes triband 900/1900/2100 HSDPA/HSUPA along with WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port. Galaxy S owners gain access to Samsung Apps, a marketplace which provides a wide variety of mobile applications.
