According to a police officer, the gang comprised of youths in their 20s who were stealing from mobile shops using the stolen cars.

Besides the Saudi youths, the others involved in the gang included young expatriates who had come to the Kingdom recently on employment visas. The alleged thieves have used knives to threaten the drivers and the mobile shop owners to steal their belongings.

The cars and the other stolen articles such as mobile phones and phone-calling cards were recovered by the police.

According to Maj. Gen. Saud Al-Hilal, the robbers were engaged in 31 incidents of theft using the 20 stolen cars on different occasions.

On complaints received from the victims of the thieves, Al-Hilal laid out an intelligent trap to apprehend the suspects successfully. The seven suspects who have been remanded confessed to their robbery and admitted that they were operating in a group to commit these offenses.

The police is conducting further investigations and the suspects will be produced before court as soon as they complete their inquiry.

In a separate incident, the police arrested a father and his 25 year old son who were selling their stolen items at the Haraj Bin Qassim – a place where used things are sold at a cheaper price. The police said that the duo was engaged in stealing valuables from restaurants and hotels in an populous area located in the south of Riyadh.
