This is a correct and merciful decision. Disputes involving marriage, divorce, inheritance and custody of children represent about 30 percent of cases in the country.

However, they are considered together with cases of murder, drug trafficking, accidents, compensation and others.

A woman wishing to get a divorce will have to stand in a long queue until her turn, so her case can be examined. Most of the times, the husband will not attend the court and the judge will postpone the hearing for weeks or months. The husband will also be absent at the second and third court hearings.

Meanwhile the poor woman will be dragging her children with her, going from one court to another. This is a tragedy, pure and simple.

After many years, it seems that we are finally on the road toward establishing special courts to look only at family-related cases.

For this reason, it is better to call them family courts, instead of personal affairs courts. No law has been drawn up to govern these courts and their organizational and legal structure is not yet clear.

However, I hope that these courts will make use of a so-called reconciliation judge who will try to counsel a couple wishing to divorce.

By doing so, he will be maintaining the unity and cohesion of the family.

He should also implement adequate controls to help reconcile differences that lead to divorces.

This is because studies are unanimous in their findings that divorces usually result from little differences that could be easily overcome.

When the reconciliation judge listens to the problems between a husband and wife, he will be able to advise them on the importance of keeping their family intact for the welfare of the children.

The personal affairs or family courts are a great stride toward reaching the right solutions for marriage and divorce cases, without putting too much burden on the wife and her children.
