Prince Sultan is the chairman of the supervisory committee.

“The committee discussed the preparations to implement a total ban on smoking in the airport beginning on Nov. 7 in line with the decision of the Council of Ministers,” acting Director General of the King Khaled International Airport Abdullah Al-Tasan said in a statement after the meeting.

A ban on smoking inside all Saudi airports and a SR200 fine for violators were approved recently by Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation. The committee also discussed the topic of privatizing the airport.

The meeting also evaluated the success of a training program aimed at developing skills in dealing with passengers. The special program covered 1,915 employees, he said.

The committee also discussed the completed and future development projects for the airport, in addition to ways to offer better services to passengers.

The other topics examined by the committee were a report on the last year’s performance of the airport, construction of buildings for private airline companies and the King Khaled Airport City, cargo facilities and halls for first and business class passengers.
