The man was attacked at around 5 a.m., said Lt. Col. Ziyad Al-Ruqaiti, spokesman for the Eastern Province police. He added that a member of the public heard a car crashing outside his home and contacted the Red Crescent.

“When the man came out, he saw two men fighting. One of them took out a knife and stabbed the other several times before fleeing the scene,” he said.

A Red Crescent ambulance brought the man, who was still alive, to Khurais Health Center. He died a short while later.

“We sent two officers to interview him, but he had died by the time they go there,” said Al-Ruqaiti.

The dead man, who is in 40s, sustained injuries to his neck and other parts of his body. Police also found his attacker’s car, which had been left close to the scene of the attack.

“We were able to identify the knifeman who was at his father’s home in Riyadh. Police in Riyadh were notified and the man was taken into custody. Investigations are still ongoing,” he added.
