The council's Education and Scientific Research Committee presented the draft regulations containing 18 articles for the proposed authority on Monday.

Shoura Council Secretary-General Muhammed Al-Ghamdi told newsmen that the proposal was submitted for the council's observation by the Supreme Education Council. The regulations were pertaining to the management and regulations governing university education, academic accreditation and assessment, and the guidelines and rules for the NAPEA.

He said the aim of the draft regulations is to improve the quality of education by enhancing facilities and services rendered by public educational institutions. The new regulations are designed to ensure better administration in these institutions by improving curricular and extra-curricular activities, enhancing the efficiency of tutorial staff and keeping pace with scientific and technological developments that are taking place in other parts of the world.

The national authority will be responsible for evaluating general education and will have  performance indicators to ensure standards in public education, establish rules for teaching and learning methods, and formulate methods to organize tests at national levels for various educational programs for which certificates and awards could be arranged.

Subsequently, Ghamdi said the house discussed a proposal by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to seek cooperation of private engineering firms in the Kingdom when issuing municipal licenses.
