In a statement Tuesday, Gem Diamonds Ltd. and the Lesotho government say the diamond was found in late October in the Letseng mine. They say a 196-carat white diamond was found in the same mine in August.

Gem Chief Executive Clifford Elphick says Letseng, which is co-owned by Gem and the Lesotho Kingdom, has frequently yielded “remarkable diamonds.” Gem also has operations in Angola, Australia, Botswana, the Central African Republic, Dubai, Lesotho, Mauritius and Indonesia.
