Col. Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, spokesman of the Eastern Province Coast Guard, gave the reminder after a five-year-old child was rescued from drowning on Friday. The child was given immediate treatment and then taken to King Fahd Medical Hospital in Dhahran.

Al-Ghamdi noted that in October alone 39 mostly children were rescued from drowning.

He also said 58 sailors of different nationalities were rescued in sea accidents involving 19 boats last month. The Coast Guard returned seven children lost to their families. Four drowned in September and October.

The Coast Guard reminded parents to ensure that their children are accompanied by able-bodied adults when going to the beach.

It also advised the public to call 994 in case of emergency.
