“Members of the department closely monitor the movement of the pilgrims and inspect anybody found in suspicious circumstances," Maj. Gen. Jamaan Al-Ghamdi, director general of the department, said to the Saudi Press Agency on Sunday.

Members of the teams have been deployed to make inspections at parking areas of vehicles transporting pilgrims. The inspectors are also confiscating cooking gas cylinders in an efforts to reduce the risk of ten fires at Mina.

“It has been agreed with the Makkah municipality to set aside areas for keeping gas cylinders seized from vehicles at each parking area," said Al-Ghamdi. "Members of the teams have also been deployed to inspect all the areas of the holy sites, as well as mosques, tunnels and flood passages, in the holy city to ensure they are free from strange objects or those harmful to the pilgrims.”

Col. Muhammad Al-Asmari, assistant director of the department, and director of Television Monitoring at the Command and Control Center, said as many as 2,087 cameras have been installed at the Haram Mosque and the holy sites, especially at Jamrat, Mashair railway stations, and bridges and tunnels, to oversee the movement of pilgrims and ensure smooth conduct of the rituals," he said.
