- ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan Friday took suo moto action against improper Haj arrangements and alleged corruption practiced during Haj operations.
The court served a notice to Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Hamid Kazmi to explain why pilgrims faced problems in during their pilgrimage.
The apex court has formed a five-member bench to probe the corruption allegation. The bench will be headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry which would begin hearing from Dec. 6, 2010.
The notice has been issued to the heads of relevant state bodies, including Kazmi, Minister of Science and Technology Azam Sawati, NAB chairman Deedar Hussain Shah, secretary religious affairs Agha Sarwar Raza Qazilbash and former director general Haj, Rao Shakeel.
Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Raja Fayaz, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Ramday will be included in the five-member bench of the Supreme Court.
