Aden Specialized Criminal Court sentenced Faris Abdullah Saleh to death and his brother Raid to five years in prison for their role in the explosion. The court cleared Faris’ second brother, Ali, and two other men — Hazim Yahia Saleh and Mukhtar Muhsen Ahmed.

The public prosecutor accused the defendants of inserting two TNT bombs in different places of the stadium, killing four, injuring 21 and destroying property. The explosion happened when the city was gearing up to host the Gulf 20 tournament.

Meanwhile, a Specialized Criminal Court in Hadramout sentenced 12 Al-Qaeda men to prison for being part of a terrorist group, conspiring to attack public and security buildings, and destabilizing society.

Nadeem Al-Junaid, Iman Bahrag, Adel Fareg Matran, Hassen Saeed Abdun, Mohammed Salem Al-Mahdi, Saleh Karama Baaba'ad, Murad Ali Al-Yafa'i and Abas Awadh Hamdan were given seven years in prison; Mohammed Ali Badubain and Ghanem Hadi Babadi were sentenced to four years; and Nabiel Al-Kaldi and Hisham Bahashwan were sentenced to five years.

Sanaa Appeal Court also upheld the 7-10 year sentence handed to four Al-Qaeda members of the Al-Ga'a Cell. The sentences of two other members of the gang were, however, reduced. The accused were arrested in October 2009 while trying to prepare explosive materials to attack tourists and target foreign and government interests.
