- TUNIS: A union official says police and high school students have clashed for two days in a small city in Tunisia, with protesters setting fire to the local headquarters of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali’s ruling party.
The North African nation has been gripped by more than two weeks of unrest over unemployment that have led to three deaths.
The latest protests broke out in Thala, 250 kilometers (150 miles) southwest of the capital.
A local union official says several people were arrested and others were taken to the hospital with injuries. He spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing problems with officials in a country where the media are heavily controlled by the government.
