Officers also seized 12,491 narcotic pills, 1,434 hashish cigarettes, 20 grams of heroin and 2,296 bundles of qat. They also raided five liquor-making facilities where they found 48 barrels of alcohol, 3,332 bottles of locally brewed alcohol and 359 bottles of imported alcohol.

The report added that officers arrested 106,658 people for other types of crimes, and 1,048 for carrying unlicensed weapons and ammunition including 376 knives.

Meanwhile, Makkah police said in a report that there were 9,628 criminal cases in 2010 in the holy city.

The crimes included attempted murder, assault, armed robbery, racketeering, vandalism, rape and harassment of women.

The crime of violence was followed by 6,424 other violations apart from 1,063 cases of trafficking in alcohol, 356 cases of drug use, 754 cases of immoral conduct, 155 cases of forgery and 902 cases of impersonating police officers and 206 cases of carrying unauthorized weapons.

The report also put the number of traffic accidents in the year at 706 cases and seizure of 4,475 stolen cars and 150 motorbikes.

Police patrols also arrested many men wanted by the law in addition to taking into custody of a large number of beggars and peddlers.
