The jury found John Taylor guilty on six counts of false accounting for claiming traveling expenses to London's House of Lord's from a property in Oxford, when really he was living in west London.Taylor, 58 years old, has said he did so because it was a normal among peers to claim items «in lieu of a salary.» The scandal followed revelations that lawmakers were regularly charging taxpayers for lavish and sometimes illegal expenditures. Five other former lawmakers have been charged; two have pleaded guilty.Taylor was appointed to the House of Lords in 1996 but resigned from the Conservative Party after he was charged by police.
