Residents were seen trying to push their cars out of the water and into the open area near the old airport. Arab News saw a helicopter flying low above the King Abdullah Tunnel, which also flooded earlier this month and in the 2009 floods.

Most of the people that Arab News met were residents from Bani Malik and Al-Sharafeya neighborhoods either busy trying to find their vehicles or assess damages to their properties. Some city residents were seen providing assistance to those who needed it.

Lt. Gen. Saad Al-Tuwaijri, director general of the Civil Defense in Jeddah, said that field and air teams were able to rescue more than 866 stranded people, 460 of them were airlifted off rooftops. He said that special committees were formed to provide housing and other aid to the people affected by the floods.

Areas near the city's underpasses were free from water as the tunnels became reservoirs for the runoff. Many north-south roads were either closed or clogged with traffic. Portions of the Haramain Expressway are also closed. An enormous sinkhole was seen on Palestine St. to the east of Madinah road before Palestine Bridge. Traffic police were attempting to control downtown-bound traffic on Madinah Road. Workers are still trying to open Andalus and Hail Road for traffic. As for Siteen Street in the area between Palestine road and King Abdullah Road is still full of water.
