According to sources, an FIR was also registered against Kanahayalal Gidwani, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator who is also the promoter of the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society (ACHS). Also named in the FIR are CP Thakur, Brig. Madan Mohan Wachu and bureaucrat Pradeep Vyas.

The CBI brought charges against the accused for allegedly cheating and forging documents. Arguments in the housing scam are being heard in Bombay's High Court. During the hearing on Jan. 18, the court passed strictures against the CBI and ordered it to register offenses against all the accused in the scam within two weeks.

According to the court orders, the CBI lodged the FIR and brought charges against the bureaucrats and army officers involved in the scam. Information from the 5,000 pages of documents relating to the scam was mentioned in the FIR. The names of several politicians from different political parties are also mentioned in the FIR.

The CBI is investigating the scam that exposed the involvement of civil and army officers and the method of corruption used in granting permission to the ACHS. Chavan was compelled to resign because of allotment of flats to his close relatives in ACHS.

Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded that all those guilty in the scam should be sent to prison. Speaking at a public rally, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde said there was no other option left for the state government but to send the bureaucrats, army officers and politicians involved in the scam to prison.

“We will not rest until these corrupt people are behind bars, and if the government fails to act, we will be compelled to create public pressure and pull down the government,” Munde said.
